A growing number of entrepreneurs active in the field of encryption and data protection choose Switzerland to develop their activities. Like Philip Zimmermann, the inventor of the world’s most widely used email encryption system, who has recently moved his mobile-encryption firm Silent Circle to Geneva to be free of US mass surveillance.
Silent Circle’s business is to encrypt and secure mobile communications. And as the company’s website explains, “to build a truly private phone, you have to build a truly private company. It’s the reason we’re headquartered in Switzerland, where the laws are better designed to protect peoples’ privacy.”
Silent Circle also appreciates Switzerland’s political and security environment: “Switzerland has the world’s most robust privacy laws, fantastic business and financial resources and an incredible business-friendly atmosphere. In addition to being the world’s center for Human Rights, Global freedom of speech and an innovative technology hub, Switzerland is our perfect home.”
