The new center will work on research and develop projects in close collaboration with the aviation industry and the Federal Office of Civil Aviation.

Two projects to develop

For now, two projects were launched: one on the interference between air traffic and wind turbines, and the other on the monitoring of drones.

Sometimes wind turbines can cause interferences that hamper navigation systems. These interferences limit Switzerland’s wind power potential. The purpose of this study is to develop a measuring system to evaluate the problems generated by wind turbines.

The number of drones in Switzerland is increasing considerably as well as the technology around it. Nonetheless, for the time being, drones are usually operated through visual contact. The aim of the Aviation Research Center Switzerland is to monitor and navigate traffic. The idea is to use new technologies, such as 5G, to analyze the limits of mobile networks in order to allow optimal monitoring and a network that guarantees good traffic flow.

More on this topic: swiss aeropole

Following an initiative of the Federal Council, several Swiss universities have created the Aviation Research Center Switzerland.
