Both the food and its packaging were specially designed to survive extreme temperatures \u2013 from \u201140\u00b0C to +40\u00b0C in some regions \u2013 and varying weather conditions. \u201cThere was a lot of trial and error involved. From testing new packaging to testing the food itself to see how it stood up to the conditions\u201d, said Dr Amira Kassis, head of the Nestl\u00e9 team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The other big challenge was storing the food. Since the Solar Impulse plane is only about as heavy as a family car, Nestl\u00e9 scientists had to carefully consider the weight of all food and drink taken on board, including the packaging.
