Switzerland is number one in innovation
31 July 2017
Switzerland has kept its position as the leader in innovation yet again in the Innovation Indicator 2017. The country is an established leader in this field: it also tops the latest edition of the European Innovation Scoreboard and the Global Innovation Index 2017.
This year, 35 countries were evaluated by the Innovation Indicator jointly compiled by the Mannheim Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI). The study analyzes innovation performance in five different domains: civil society, education, economy, science and government institutions. Following Switzerland are Singapore, Belgium and Germany.
It is not unusual for Switzerland to earn first place in this innovation indicator, having been first since 2000. The country is the only one to have received a high score in each domain: it came first in economy, second in education, third in both civil society and science, and fourth in government institutions.
