As of mid-2016, the city of Visp will have a technology site specifically dedicated to life sciences. It will host SMEs, start-ups, researchers and students.
BioArk Visp will bring key competences, education, technology, companies and support to innovation under one roof. The four-storey, 4,000 sqm building will host the school of chemistry and biology laboratory assistants, as well as flexible office and laboratory space for start-ups and SMEs. It will also include a fill-and-finish facility. This synergy, together with the close proximity of the Visp industrial site, will stimulate innovation and the development of new projects. BioArk Visp will work closely with the existing BioArk in Monthey, as well as with HES-SO Valais-Wallis and the EPFL in Sion.
The canton of Valais is home to several multinational companies active in the fine chemistry, pharma and biotechnology sectors. These sectors represent over 6,000 jobs and approximately one-eighth of the cantonal GDP. Thanks to BioArk Visp, Valais will further strengthen its position in these highly specialized fields.
