Associated British Foods subsidiary Wander, one of Europe’s leading food companies, will move the production of the Ovomaltine spread to its Neuenegg plant in canton Bern. The group will invest over 10 million francs in order to equip its Neuenegg manufacturing site with the technology that is needed to produce the spreadable version of its famous Ovaltine choco-malt drink, currently manufactured in Belgium.

In spite of the difficulties caused by the strong franc, the company has no intention of relocating its activities: “We are determined to stay in Switzerland, where we can find highly-qualified, flexible employees with exceptional problem-solving skills”, said Arnold Furtwaengler, CEO of Wander, to the Berner Zeitung.

By 2017, the Ovomaltine Crunchy Cream spread will be entirely manufactured in Neuenegg. This will mainly strengthen the existing 260 jobs, but also create 5 new jobs initially and 15 more in the medium term.
