On April 23, 2013, the government of Fribourg and the EPFL signed an in-principle agreement for the creation of a research center in the field of Smart Living (Intelligent Buildings) at the blueFACTORY site, the futuristic innovation and technology park in the heart of Fribourg.

The future research center, called the “Smart Living Lab”, will bring together the competencies of:

• the EPFL
• the University of Fribourg
• the College of Engineering and Architecture (i.e. University of Applied Sciences) of Fribourg.

The Smart Living Lab’s objectives will be to develop interdisciplinary knowledge related to future housing in the fields of technology, materials, law and human sciences.
